Come see my band live on June 20

As you may already know, I perform in a band called the Starling Effect. Once a mighty wall-of-sound quintet and currently a tight power trio, we play exactly the sort of music you might expect from a bunch of guys who lived through the alternative explosion of the 1980s and ’90s. It’s a bit shoegaze with a dash of postpunk, possibly a little grunge, but mostly just good old-fashioned indie rock.

If there were a prize for “Vancouver band most likely to play a My Bloody Valentine song”, we would win it. (We might also win the title of “Only Vancouver band likely to play a My Bloody Valentine song”.) We have been led to understand that there is an eager young audience rediscovering the sort of music we play, but they must be getting lost on their way to our shows.

We have been locked down in our musical bunker, working on new material for the past several months. And we will return to that, but we’re popping out for one night only to play a live set at the Princeton Pub in Vancouver on June 20. We’re playing with a couple of other local bands, Chasing Zero and Whippersnapper, and we’re up first at around 9:30 p.m.

As is always the case at the Princeton, there is no cover charge, which means, friends, that you have absolutely nothing to lose. Join us, won’t you?

There is a Facebook event page if you crave more information.
